Menjou's mustache style gained different meanings in the international arena due to his support for the House Un-American Activities Committee in the United States. In East Germany, this mustache shape was often used as a symbol representing dissidents. In fact, this style, which is still called "Menjou-Bärtchen" in Germany, has become the signature of dubious characters, corrupt politicians and fraudsters. Salvador Dalí, on the other hand, admiringly described Menjou's mustache as a "surrealist work of art".
Menjou's mustache, which also attracted the attention of the art world, was the subject of the famous avant-garde photographer Umbo's works in his photo series "Menjou En Gros" in 1928. This study showed that Menjou's becoming a cultural icon resonated not only in the field of cinema but also in other branches of art.
