Daveed Diggs

Daveed Daniele Diggs is an American artist born January 24, 1982; He carries the identities of actor, rapper, singer, songwriter, screenwriter and filmmaker together. While he is known in the music world as the vocalist of the experimental hip-hop group Clipping, he had a big break on Broadway in 2015. He won both the Grammy and Tony awards in the same year for his portrayal of the characters Marquis de Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson in the musical "Hamilton".

Following these successes, she had a recurring role on the TV series โ€œBlackโ€‘ishโ€ (2016โ€‘2018) and had a leading role in the films โ€œWonderโ€ (2017) and โ€œVelvet Buzzsawโ€ (2019). He took part in the 2018 production "Blindspotting" as a writer, producer and leading actor; This performance earned him an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Male Lead. Starting in 2020, he returned to the screens in the television adaptation of "Snowpiercer".

The origins of the artist go back to social worker mother Barbara and bus driver father Dountes Diggs in Oakland, California. Diggs grew up at the intersection of two different cultures, as his mother was Jewish and his father was African-American; He often states that the name "Daveed" is the Hebrew pronunciation of "David" and that the two letters "e" were added as per his father's liking.

Growing up with friends from different ethnic identities during his childhood, Diggs developed an identity at a young age that embraced both his Jewish origins and his father's origins.

He continued his education at Berkeley High School and Brown University; He graduated from Brown with a degree in theater arts and was also noted for his athletic abilities. During his university years, he made school history by breaking the Brown Bears team's record time of 14.21 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles race. After his graduation, he worked as a substitute teacher for a short time.

While taking part in experimental theater stages in the early stages of his career, he went on a national tour in Marc Bamuthi Joseph's choreopoem "Word Becomes Flesh" and performed in various Shakespeare productions. He continues his relationship with Emmy Raverโ€‘Lampman, whom he met on the set of โ€œHamiltonโ€ in 2015. He received the honorary Doctor of Fine Arts title at his graduation ceremony from Brown University on May 28, 2017.
