Ludwig van Beethoven

The genius of music, Ludwig van Beethoven, is considered one of the most important names in the transition from the Classical period to the Romantic period. The German pianist and composer is among the most influential musicians of all time. His nine symphonies, five piano concertos, thirty-two piano sonatas, sixteen string quartets and Fidelio, the only opera he wrote in his lifetime, are just a few of his unforgettable works.

Beethoven's passion for music has its roots in his family. His grandfather, Ludwig Van Beethoven, of Belgian origin, settled in Bonn and became an important musician at the court. While his father, Johann van Beethoven, was working as a tenor in the same palace, he was giving his son piano and violin lessons. Beethoven was born in December 1770.

The fact that the baptismal registration was made on December 17th causes the birthday to be generally celebrated on December 16th.

Beethoven's musical journey began at an early age. His father was his first teacher, after which he took organ and piano lessons. He also learned violin and viola. He was subjected to intensive musical training from the age of five; It is said that one of his teachers even woke him up from his bed at night and made him study.

His father, inspired by the tours and successes of Mozart's father, Leopold Mozart, wanted his son to follow a similar path. Beethoven gave his first public concert when he was only seven years old. He started taking composition lessons in 1779 and published his first composition in 1783. This brilliant talent was noticed and supported by important names of the period.

Beethoven, who deeply felt the effects of the Age of Enlightenment and Freemasonry, went to Vienna in 1787 with the dream of working with Mozart. However, he soon learned about his mother's illness and had to return. Beethoven, who lost his mother that year, took responsibility for his younger siblings as his father's alcoholism increased.

During this period, his meeting with the von Breunings, one of the distinguished families of the period, expanded his social and cultural environment.
