Murat İsmail Rauf Daltaban was born on May 5, 1966 in Ankara. In his early years, he studied part-time at the opera department of Ankara Conservatory between 1983 and 1986, and then studied Mining Engineering at Middle East Technical University between 1987 and 1992. However, he left his university education halfway and headed to Ankara University, Faculty of Languages, History and Geography, Department of Theatre, and graduated in 1992.

He took his first step on the theater stage in 1989, in the play "A Sırça Köşk Masalı" by Ankara State Theatre.

He performed at Istanbul City Theaters for approximately fourteen years, starting from 1993; He played leading roles in productions such as “Prince Andre”, “War and Peace”, “Iago-Othello”, “Jason-Medea” and “Debuisson-Mission”. During this period, he was also interested in rock and punk style music for a while.

In 2005, he founded the theater company DOT with his wife Özlem Daltaban and Süha Bilal and served as its artistic director. DOT stood out as a group that introduced the in‑yer‑face theater movement to Turkey, staging the stories of city people with modern texts, and performed approximately twenty plays and short plays between 2005 and 2018.

Daltaban, who is also active in the world of cinema and TV series, made her screen debut with the movie "My Father is in the Soldier" (1994). In 1999, he played the Armenian clarinetist Artin in the movie "Salkım Hanım Taneleri" and was nominated for the Best Supporting Actor award at the 5th Sadri Alışık Theater and Cinema Actor Awards.

He became known to a wide audience with his characters Kanber in the TV series "Kınalı Kar" and Ali Rıza (Arıza) in the TV series "Hırsız Polis". In recent years, he took part in projects such as “Arıza” (2020‑2021), “Kardeş Çocukları” (2019), “Çoban Yıldızı” (2017). DOT's play "Festen" won the Turkish Critics Association's Selection Committee Special Award in 2010; In the same year, he was chosen as the Best Production Director of the Year at the Sadri Alışık Awards.

In 2017, his play "Rhinos" was staged at the Edinburgh International Theater Festival, and in 2018, he received awards in four different categories at the Scottish Theater Critics' Awards, including the Best Director award.

Daltaban, who was appointed as the General Art Director of the City Theater in Bursa's Nilüfer district in 2021, continues his career as a name that directs the performing arts. He is married to his wife Özlem Daltaban and is a father to his son Arda Kuzgun, who was born in 2004.
