Murat Menteş

Murat Menteş is a Turkish writer born in Istanbul on September 21, 1974. Known in the literary world for both his novels and poems, Menteş's work Korkma Ben Varım was deemed worthy of an award in the novel category by the Writers' Union of Türkiye.

Menteş, who started his writing career by working in various magazines, publishing houses and newspapers in his youth, also wrote texts for agencies and television channels. He continued to write in the internet fanzine called Afili Filintalar, which he founded together with names such as Alper Canıgüz, Emrah Serbes and Onur Ünlü in 2009.

The poems of Menteş, who left Yeni Şafak newspaper, where he wrote his columns in 2012, in July 2013, were composed by Kaan Bosnak. His works named Awayde Placebo and Şeyhim Işınla Beni were the subject of these compositions.

Menteş, who was the chief editor of OT magazine from 2016 to 2021, continued to write during this period. The Pandeva Appointment series, which they prepared together with the illustrator Hakan Karataş since 2018, also met with readers with a novel serialized in the humor magazine Yumurtasuz. During this serialization, the sections enriched with Memo Tembelçizer's drawings became another work that reflected Menteş's humorous style. He has been living as a freelance writer since 2013.

Murat Menteş's novels attract attention with the way he deals with extraordinary events with a rapid narrative and a humorous style. While the author avoids long descriptions in his works, he prioritizes fictional speed. He even summarizes his approach by saying that he designs his novels like "a sports car that can go 300 km per hour." The plot, which becomes complicated in the first chapters of his novels, gathers together in the second half and presents the reader with a surprising ending.

In his novel Fink, which he published in 2021, he carried out a different experiment by choosing to use rhyme in prose.
