Hatice Muzaffer Akgün was born in Istanbul on April 18, 1925 and died in the same city on August 1, 2015. Akgün, one of the popular vocal artists of Turkish folk music, became known to a wide audience with his folk song "Barracks Doldu Today". The artist, who completed her education in Ankara, graduated from İsmet Paşa Girls' Institute, passed an exam in 1942 upon the suggestion of Şerif İçli, appeared on the stage at Ankara Radio, and then continued her music studies at Istanbul Radio.

Akgün, nicknamed "The Mother of Folk Songs", also achieved the title of being Turkey's first Gold Record award-winning artist.

In the later stages of his artistic career, he became one of the headliners of major casinos and started performing with Zeki Müren. However, during this collaboration, a situation arose in which Müren was not asked to go on stage or be applauded. As a reaction to this situation, Akgün published an advertisement in a newspaper and made a statement saying, "My loyal listeners, for God's sake, please do not applaud me while working with Zeki Müren, you will play with my bread." This incident also showed his strong stance behind the scenes.

Akgün, who also left his mark in the world of cinema, stepped into a different branch of art by taking roles in films such as "Empty Cradle", "The Clown" and "Gurbet Türküsü". He took part in works such as 1958's "Cilalı İbo Yıldızlar Araında", 1965's "Ayşecik Empty Cradle" and "Soytarı", 1966's "Gurbet Türküsü" and 1974's "Never Mind". This diverse list of the artist's filmography reveals his versatile talents.

Muzaffer Akgün passed away in Istanbul on August 1, 2015 and was buried in Merkezefendi Cemetery. The music and cinema legacy he left behind has left a mark that is still remembered and valued in Turkish cultural history.
