Orhan Alkaya

Orhan Alkaya, who was born in Istanbul on February 5, 1958, continued his education at Marmara University Press and Publication School after graduating from Istanbul University Faculty of Law. Since his university years, he has created a readership for himself by writing art criticism, political articles and essays in daily newspapers and various magazines.

He stepped into the world of theater by both appearing on stage and sitting in the director's chair at City Theatres; However, after the coup of September 12, 1980, he was dismissed, like thousands of public officials, within the scope of Martial Law Law No. 1402.

In addition to his careers as a journalist and editor, Alkaya also worked in areas such as encyclopedia writing, consultancy and film translation. He is especially known for his columns published regularly in the newspaper Birgün; To date, he has books published by six different publishing houses. These works include “Turkey is Still Possible”, “History of Defeats”, “Salt Days”, “Early Words”, “Shattered Divan” and “A! Etika”.

On the theater stage, he took part in many important productions under the umbrella of Istanbul City Theaters since the 1980s. He performed Sławomir Mrożek's work in the play "Refugees", "Shadow Master" in 1983 under the direction of Yıldırım Türker and Yeşim Dorman, "Human Garden" in 1992 with the pen of Gülsün Siren Kınal, Sevim Burak's "Owner's Voice" in 1994, Samuel Beckett in 1997.

He staged his play "Waiting for Godot". Haldun Taner's "Sersem Husband's Cunning Wife" in 1999, Aziz Nesin's "Hadi Öldürsene Canikom" in 2003, Matei Vișniec's "War and Women" in 2005, and Alain Decaux's "The Rosenbergs Should Not Die" in 2012 were among Alkaya's performances.

Alkaya, who is also an active name in the world of cinema and television, starred in films such as "I Love You" in 1983, "On Women" in 1987, "Yellow Tebessüm" in 1992 and "Good Hour" in 2004. While he played the character of Hikmet Karcı in Kanal D's record-breaking series "Öyle Bir Geçer Zaman ki" in 2010-2011, he was engraved in the memory of the audience as Salih in "Al Yazılım" broadcast on ATV in 2011, and as Fehmi Şekercizade in "Aşk Günde" broadcast on FOX in 2015-2016.

Alkaya, who was appointed as the General Art Director of IMM City Theaters on January 8, 2008, resigned from this position on May 29, 2009. In addition, the project "Prince - Akşemseddin", produced in 2025, and the production called "Handan", which is expected to be released soon, constitute the new pages of his career.
