Sema Çeyrekbaşı was born in Izmir in 1951 and died in Istanbul on August 5, 2024. The artist, one of the leading names of Turkish theater and cinema, worked at the Istanbul State Theater for many years. She was also known as the granddaughter of Latife Bekir Çeyrekbaşı, one of the pioneers of the women's movement.
Çeyrekbaşı, who started his artistic life at the Ankara State Conservatory Theater Department, completed his education at the Amsterdam Royal Academy in 1974. He met with a wide audience by taking part in cinema and TV series projects since the 1980s. He gave unforgettable performances in films such as "Kuyucaklı Yusuf", "The Woman Has No Name" and "Being Italian with Signora Enrica".
Drawing attention with his contributions to the theater world, Çeyrekbaşı served as artistic director at the Istanbul State Theater in the 1993-1994 season. During this period, he expanded the spatial boundaries of art by transforming Birim Theatre/Aziz Nesin Stage from a warehouse to a stage. He also played an important role in the repair of Taksim Stage.
In 2007, she won the "Most Successful Actress of the Year in a Supporting Role" award at the 11th Afife Theater Awards with her performance in the play "Inishmaan's Cripple". Then, in 2011, he was deemed worthy of awards at both the 15th Afife Theater Awards and the 16th Sadri Alışık Awards for his role in "Temiz Ev". These successes once again revealed his versatile acting talent.
