How to check and pay tax debt online in Turkey

Debts owed to the tax office, such as an income tax instalment, tax on rental income, stamp duty or a fee, grow with a late payment surcharge once they're overdue and can get in the way of other transactions. You can see and pay all of them online without going to the tax office.

This guide shows you step by step how to check your debt through the "Vergi Borcu Sorgulama ve Ödeme" service on e-Devlet and the Revenue Administration's Digital Tax Office, pay by card or from a bank account, pay by document number if you have no password, and get a receipt and a debt status letter afterwards. Vehicle tax and traffic fines are covered in a separate guide on our site.

🧰 What you need

  • Your Turkish ID number (or tax ID number for a company or sole proprietorship)
  • An e-Devlet password, mobile signature, e-signature, Turkish ID card or internet banking linked to e-Devlet; or a Digital Tax Office user code and password
  • A credit card, debit card or bank account for payment
  • For payment without logging in, the accrual slip, follow-up file or payment plan number printed on your document

Steps

  1. Work out which authority the debt belongs to Debts followed up by tax offices, such as income tax instalments, tax on rental income, stamp duty, fees and administrative fines sent to the tax office, appear in the Revenue Administration (GİB) system. Property tax and environmental cleaning tax, however, are paid to the local administration where the property is located and don't show up on these screens. For vehicle tax and traffic fines, see our separate MTV guide; this guide covers other tax debts.
  2. Open the Tax Debt Inquiry and Payment service on e-Devlet Type turkiye.gov.tr into your browser yourself; don't click links that arrive by text message or email. Type "vergi borcu" into the search box and choose the Revenue Administration's "Vergi Borcu Sorgulama ve Ödeme" (Tax Debt Inquiry and Payment) service. Log in with an e-Devlet password, mobile signature, e-signature, Turkish ID card or internet banking; the tax debts registered in your name then appear.
  3. Log in to the Digital Tax Office For more detailed options, type dijital.gib.gov.tr into the address bar and click "Kullanıcı Girişi" (User Login). Fill in the "T.C. Kimlik No / Vergi Kimlik No / Kullanıcı Kodu" (ID number / tax ID / user code) and "Şifre" (password) fields and enter the security code, or use the "e-Devlet ile Giriş Yap" (Log in with e-Devlet) button. The same services are also available on your phone in the Revenue Administration's GİB Mobil app.
  4. Open Payment and Debt Transactions → Debt Payment and Details Open "Ödeme ve Borç İşlemleri" (Payment and Debt Transactions) in the menu and click "Borç Ödeme ve Detay" (Debt Payment and Details). In the "Borç Durum Bilgisi" (debt status) field choose overdue, not yet due or all, and in the "Tecil Bilgisi" (deferral) field choose deferred, not deferred or all. Start with "all" to see your whole debt, then focus on the overdue items.
  5. Read the debt items carefully Each debt in the list shows the tax type, tax period, due date, principal amount, late payment surcharge and total amount owed. For overdue items the total includes the late payment surcharge, so go by the figure on screen rather than estimating it. If there's an item you don't recognise, ask your tax office or the Tax Communication Centre on 189 before paying.
  6. Tick the items to pay and make the payment Tick the debts you want to pay and press the payment button. Choose a payment method: credit card, debit card, foreign card or payment from a bank account; enter your card details and, if your bank asks for a verification code, enter it to confirm. For some debts a warning says the debt can't be paid through the Digital Tax Office; in that case you need to go to the relevant tax office.
  7. Make a partial payment if needed If you can't pay the whole amount at once, type the amount you want to pay into the "Kısmi Ödeme Tutarı" (partial payment amount) field on the same screen and press "Dağıt" (Distribute); the system spreads the amount across the debt items. For debts in instalments, overdue and not-yet-due instalments can't be selected in the same payment. The late payment surcharge keeps running on the remainder, so a partial payment reduces the debt but doesn't close it.
  8. No password? Pay with a document number To pay without logging in, open "Belge Numarası ile Ödeme" (Payment by Document Number) under "Hızlı Ödemeler" (Quick Payments) on the dijital.gib.gov.tr home page. Enter your ID or tax ID number and the main follow-up file number, payment plan document number or accrual slip number printed on your document, choose the province and tax office and press "SORGULA" (Search). If you're paying a restructuring instalment, use "Ödeme Plan No ile Yapılandırma Ödemesi" (Restructuring Payment by Plan Number) in the same section.
  9. Not online? Pay at a bank, the PTT or the tax office Tax debts can also be paid at branches of banks authorised by the Revenue Administration to collect tax, at PTT post offices and at tax office cash desks. Some banks offer a tax payment menu in their own internet and mobile banking apps; the menu name differs from bank to bank. Check the list of authorised banks on gib.gov.tr to see which bank collects payments in which way.
  10. Keep the receipt and get a debt status letter if needed After paying, download the receipt from "Ödeme Alındılarım ve Tahsilat Bilgilerim" (My Payment Receipts and Collection Details) under Payment and Debt Transactions. If you need to prove to an organisation that you have no debt, create a "Borç Durum Yazısı Talebi" (debt status letter request) from "Mükellefiyet / Borç Durum Yazılarım" in the "Dilekçelerim" (My Petitions) menu. The organisation receiving it can verify the letter on the "Mükellefiyet Yazısı / Borç Durum Yazısı Doğrulama" screen on the Digital Tax Office home page.
