You can connect to the Yudum.NET chat network from your browser or with an IRC client. The browser route is open to everyone; connecting with an IRC client requires approval from the team.

No plain-text port

Our network has no unencrypted (plain-text) port. The old 6667 has been closed. Connections are made only through +6697, over TLS.

The reason is simple: on a plain-text connection your password and everything you type travel across the network in the clear. Every point in between โ€” your router, a workplace network, your provider โ€” can read them.

Clients without SSL/TLS support cannot connect. Very old mIRC versions, some mobile apps and tools without a TLS library won't work for this reason โ€” you'll need to update your client.

IRC client access is closed

Connecting directly with an IRC client requires a server password. This password is not public; the team issues it on request.

To apply, use the contact form and pick the relevant subject. Telling us which client you use and what you need it for speeds things up.

If you don't need the password, you can join the chat from your browser โ€” same network, same channels, same account. Nothing to install.

Connection examples

Once you have the password from the team:

mIRC /server irc.yudum.net +6697 <password>
irssi /connect -tls irc.yudum.net 6697 <password>
HexChat Add network โ†’ irc.yudum.net/+6697 โ†’ tick "Use SSL" โ†’ Server password

The + in front of the port number means TLS. If your client has a separate "Use SSL" box, tick that too.

Certificate

The server certificate is issued by Let's Encrypt and renewed automatically. Your client should not show a warning such as "accept the certificate / skip verification"; if it does, you are connecting to the wrong address.
