Yudum is built to work on a phone. There is no app to install โ you open the site in your browser and you are in the chat.
1. Getting in
Open the chat, type a nickname and join. If you have registered your nickname, enter its password on the same screen so that your profile, friends and groups come with you. Registering is free and takes a minute: see nickname registration.
2. What the phone layout gives you
- Channel list, user list and private messages slide in and out instead of crowding the screen.
- Emoji picker, photo and file sending, and voice messages are all in the message bar.
- Long-press (or tap) a nickname for the same menu you get from a right-click on a desktop.
3. Music while you chat
The radio keeps playing in the background while you talk. Open the radio from the chat and carry on โ switching channels does not stop the stream. See the radio chat guide.
4. Photos, files and your profile
You can send photos and files straight from the phone, and edit your profile and avatar from the same interface as on a desktop. See profile and settings.
5. Voice and video
Calls work in the mobile browser once you allow microphone and camera access. See voice and video chat.
6. Staying connected
Phone browsers suspend background tabs to save battery, so if you lock the screen for a long time the connection may drop; it reconnects when you come back. If you are on a weak mobile connection, turning the radio off noticeably reduces data use.
7. Using a normal IRC app instead
If you prefer a dedicated IRC client on your phone, that works too โ the connection details are on connecting with an IRC client.
