Groups

What is a group?

A group is where people with a shared interest gather. Every group has three faces, and all three are the same group:

• Its page — /grup/<group-name>: members, posts, announcements, events.
• Its chat channel — #grup-<group-name>: an IRC channel of its own.
• Its WebChat tab — the Groups tab in the profile box on the left.

Creating a group

1. On /gruplar, press “Create group”.
2. Write the group's name and a short description.
3. The group is created and you become its founder. It becomes fully active once it passes the member threshold (5 members by default).

Who can join?

The founder chooses how joining works:

• Open — anyone can join directly.
• By application — people apply and administrators approve or decline.
• By invitation — only invited people can join.

There is also a visibility setting: open groups appear in the list, private ones do not.

Roles

• 👑 Founder — the person who created the group. Changes settings, assigns roles, can delete the group. The founder's own role cannot be changed.
• 🛡️ Administrator — approves applications, invites people, posts announcements and events.
• 👥 Member — posts, comments, chats in the channel.

Only the founder changes roles, from the member list on the group page.

Announcements and events

On the group page, administrators can add an announcement (an important note) or an event (a meeting with a date). Whatever they add appears on the group page and is posted into the group's chat channel — so nobody misses it.

Group vHost

A founder can give members a vHost belonging to the group, so members appear in chat with a group address. Details: vHost.

Leaving a group

The “Leave group” button on the group page is all it takes. If you are the founder you must first pass founder or administrator rights to someone else, or delete the group.
