vHost

What is a vHost?

On IRC everyone has a “host” address, and it is visible through WHOIS. A vHost (virtual host) is a custom name shown in place of your real address — it looks better and it hides where you connect from.

Group vHost

If you founded a group you can give your members a vHost belonging to that group:

/ss VHOST #grup-muzik on

Use off to switch it back. Group channels start with the #grup- prefix; you manage your groups from the groups page.

Custom vHost

A personal vHost is assigned by network staff:

/as VHOST SET deniz uye.yudum.net

Only staff can run that command. To request one, write through the contact page or ask a channel operator.

vHost rules

• Addresses that impersonate someone, or suggest a company or brand, are not granted.
• vHosts containing abuse or offensive wording are removed.
• A vHost is a display setting. It grants no privileges of any kind.

If your vHost does not appear

• You must have identified to your nickname (/ns IDENTIFY).
• A change sometimes shows up only on your next connection — try disconnecting and coming back.
