Using WebChat

What is WebChat?

WebChat lets you join the chat from your browser without installing anything. The Join chat button on the site takes you there, and it works on phones too. Next to chat, Discover, your profile, the social feed, voice rooms and settings all open inside WebChat — you never have to leave the chat.

Signing in

  1. Type your nickname and password (or sign in with Google) — your profile, friends and badges come with it.
  2. Press Connect.

Only members can join the chat. No account yet? Sign up for free — it takes a few seconds, and you can also use Google.

What is where? (Community layout)

Members see WebChat in the community layout. You can switch back to Classic under Settings › Appearance › Layout.

  • Top of the left column — shortcuts. On the left Server (connection messages), Announcements, Change Nick, Help; on the right My profile, Social Feed, Discover.
  • Left column — rooms grouped under headings (Chat, Voice, Groups, Radio, Games, Cinema…). The + next to a heading joins a room or creates a group. The number next to a room is how many people are inside.
  • Bottom left — your own card (avatar, status) and ⚙ settings. In a voice room a voice bar appears just above it.
  • Centre — the chat. Discover, profiles, settings, announcements and help open here as pages; ✕ or Back to chat (or Esc) returns you to the chat.
  • Right — people in the room, with staff under their own heading.
  • Very top — the radio bar and the scrolling social strip.

What you can do without leaving chat

  • Discover — news, films, quizzes, polls, football, the score predictor and more.
  • My profile — your full profile page, with every setting one click away.
  • Social Feed — posts, likes, comments and status updates.
  • Voice rooms — keep talking while you look at other rooms; your voice connection stays up.
  • Settings — account, privacy, appearance, notifications.

While writing

  • The + button: photo, video, document, GIF, sticker, poll and AFK.
  • 🙂 emoji picker · 🎤 press and hold, speak, release — voice message.
  • Poll, face-off, question of the day, quiz and match links pasted into chat open as cards, and everyone can vote from chat.

Typed into the message box. The full list is in WebChat under Help › Getting started; clicking one writes it into the box. Detailed list: Shortcuts and commands.

Right-click menus

  • Right-click a nick (long-press on a phone) → profile, private message, add/remove friend, follow/unfollow, block, voice/video call. With room rights: op/voice, kick, ban.
  • Right-click a room → join, room management depending on your rights; in a group room, group settings, announcements and events.

What if I disconnect?

WebChat reconnects by itself and returns you to your rooms; you do not need to reload the page.
