Hamdi Alkan

Hamdi Alkan was born on January 16, 1967 in Döver village of Hatay. The artist, who belongs to a family of Arab origin, grew up as the youngest of six siblings. His father, Ali Alkan, was a courthouse bailiff and his mother, Helva Alkan, was a housewife. Alkan, who was interested in books from a young age, was also interested in sports such as swimming and basketball during his school years.

He was educated in Antakya from primary school to high school and gained stage experiences during his student years.

Alkan, who completed his higher education at Yıldız Technical University, Department of Electrical Engineering, completed this process in a long time of twelve years. During his university years, he earned his living by selling books at the Sahaflar Bazaar in Beyazıt Square. Although he wanted to enter the conservatory, the artist could not take this step and married Canan Hoşgör in 1989, when he was 22 years old.

From this marriage he had two daughters named Zeynep and Ayşe. The couple divorced in 1999, remarried in 2006, but separated for the second time in 2012.

After his graduation, Alkan stepped into the television world as a presenter and program producer at TRT, and worked with names such as Gafur Hüner and Yalçın Menteş. After preparing the sports sketch program "Öz Ofsayt", he directed, produced and acted in projects such as "Reyting Reyting" and "Reyting Hamdi". Known for his program "Reyting Hamdi", the artist took part in the comedy program bearing his name for ten years and attracted great attention with his character "Gazman".

This character is remembered as a superhero who can fly by expelling gas. He played the character Cino in the TV series "My Best Friend", which was broadcast on Show TV between 2004 and 2007, and he was also the director and producer of the series. He also directed the "Yumurcak TV" series, which featured only child actors.

Alkan, who also carried out important work in the field of theater, served as a teacher and general art director at Yıldız Technical University Theater Club. In the world of cinema, he appeared as a guest actor in the movie "Şellale" in 2001. He contributed to the recognition of names such as Beren Saat and Engin Akyürek by preparing the "Stars of Türkiye" competition program broadcast on Show TV in 2004.

He directed the TV series "Arka Sıradakiler", which started broadcasting in 2007 and had a broadcast period of 193 episodes. He also directed films such as "Bayrampaşa: I Will Not Stay Long", "Dersimiz: Atatürk" and "Selam: Journey to Spring".

The artist, who married Selen Görgüzel in Rome in 2014, directed the TV series "O Hayat Benim", which was broadcast between 2014 and 2017. Alkan, who reached 145 kilos in 2016 due to health problems, lost weight and regained his health by undergoing gastric sleeve surgery. In 2019, he directed the comedy film "Forty Yalan".

In addition to his large book collection, he also collects various objects such as posters, tin toys, old razors, matches, binoculars, paintings, prayer beads, pens and pocket knives. He donated his postcard, painting, letter and telegram collections to the Independence Museum opened in Hatay.
