Hüseyin Cahit Yalçın

Hüseyin Cahit Yalçın, one of the important names of Turkish literature and press life, was born on December 7, 1875 in Balıkesir. Raised as the child of a middle-class civil servant family, Cahit's father is Ashar Manager Ali Rıza Efendi and his mother is Fatma Neyyire Hanım. Yalçın, who also has an older brother named Hüseyin Suat, started his education in Istanbul and continued his education at the Military Junior High School in Serez.
Hüseyin Cahit, who completed his secondary education here, continued his high school education at Dersaadet High School. He entered Mekteb-i Mülkiye in 1893 and graduated second in 1896. After his graduation, he worked for a short time at the Ministry of Education and then turned to education. While he was working as a French and Turkish teacher and administrator at Vefa and Mercan High Schools, he published his first story book Hayat-ı Muhayyel in 1899.
Hüseyin Cahit, whose interest in literature began during his student years, stepped into journalism with the magazine Mektep, which he published with his friends during high school. After joining the Servet-i Fünun community, he began to write his literary and political articles in this magazine. At the same time, he continued to write in various newspapers such as Mütalaa, Tarik, Sabah and Saadet.
Hüseyin Cahit, who took over the management of Servet-i Fünun after Tevfik Fikret left the magazine in 1900, was banned from the magazine in which his novel Dream Inside, published in 1901, was serialized, on the grounds that he mentioned the French Revolution in his article titled Literature and Law which he translated from French.
It was closed by the Abdulhamid administration. After this incident, Yalçın stayed away from writing life for a while and turned to grammar and dictionary studies. He made a significant contribution to our language with his work Türkçe Sarf ve Nahiv, which he prepared between 1901-1908.
