Sadık Gürbüz is a Turkish folk music artist, composer and actor who was born on April 10, 1950 in Keçiköy, Gümüşhacıköy district of Amasya. He is known for his efforts to interpret folk songs with polyphonic and symphonic arrangements.
Theater and music
He graduated from Istanbul University Faculty of Law. During his youth, he worked at Istanbul City Theaters and composed music for staged plays. In 1976, he had to leave this position for political reasons and never returned to the theater.
He carried the musical knowledge he gained in theater to cinema. The soundtracks of the films Black Sheet Bride (1975), Fugitive (1982) and Şaşkın Ördek (1983) belong to him. He released albums on various record labels from the 1980s to the early 2000s.
According to Gürbüz, folk music should not remain within the boundaries of monophony, but should meet with contemporary techniques. The first concrete example of this idea was the concert My Land and My Love, which he prepared together with violinist and academician Cihat Aşkın in 1996.
Acting
In the following years, he also appeared in front of the camera. In 2005, he played the role of Yani Baba in the movie Misi. He played the character of Hacı Şerif in the TV series Kardeş Payı, which was published in 2014-2015.
In 2026, the fiftieth anniversary of his artistic life was celebrated with concerts held in Istanbul. Gürbüz is known as a musician who aims to bring folk music together with new forms.
