Ahmet Ak, who was born on May 20, 1966 in the Afลin district of Kahramanmaraล, started working in Afลin TEK Sports Club at a young age and laid the foundations of freestyle under the guidance of Avni Tarhan. During his childhood and youth, he won a silver medal twice (1981, 1983) in the Balkan youth championships, and was crowned champion in the same organization in 1985.
He made a name for himself in the international arena by winning the bronze medal in the European Espoir Championship in 1984 and the silver medal in the World Espoir Championship a year later.
After moving to the men's category, he won a bronze medal in the 57 kilo category at the World Championships held in Clermont-Ferrand, France in 1987; It also resulted in bronze at the Mediterranean Games the same year.
