Joely Richardson (born 9 January 1965) is an English actress. She is known for her roles in Shining Through, in which she played the role of Margrete, and I'll Do Anything, in which she played the character of Christine.

The daughter of British actress Vanessa Redgrave, she was born in London, England.

Joely Kim Richardson was born on January 9, 1965 in London, England. He is a member of the Redgrave family, one of the most established dynasties of British theater and cinema; She is the daughter of Oscar-winning actress Vanessa Redgrave and director Tony Richardson, the granddaughter of legendary actor Sir Michael Redgrave, and the sister of actress Natasha Richardson, who tragically passed away in 2009.

Richardson, who dreamed of becoming a professional tennis player in his childhood, turned to acting with his father's encouragement and the influence of his genes. After graduating from the Thacher School in California, he returned to England to study at the prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA).

Although he started his career as a child as an extra in his father's film "The Charge of the Light Brigade" (1968), he made his professional debut in the 1985 film "Wetherby", portraying the youth of his mother Vanessa Redgrave's character. He attracted attention with Peter Greenaway's cult film "Drowning by Numbers" (1988).

He made his first big break in Hollywood with the comedy movie "King Ralph" (1991), in which he shared the leading role with John Goodman. He continued his rise by starring alongside Michael Douglas and Liam Neeson in the 1992 film "Shining Through".

One of Joely Richardson's most popular movie roles, which brought her widespread recognition, was as the elegant fashion designer Anita in "101 Dalmatians" (1996), a live-action adaptation of Disney's classic animation. This film, starring Glenn Close as Cruella de Vil, was a global box office success. Then, she proved her success in dramatic and action-packed productions with her role as Lieutenant Starck in the movie "Event Horizon" (1997), one of the important examples of the science fiction horror genre, and as Charlotte Selton in the movie "The Patriot" (2000), directed by Roland Emmerich and starring Mel Gibson.

She portrayed Marie Antoinette in the period drama "The Affair of the Necklace" (2001), starring Hilary Swank.

However, the most decisive project in Richardson's career and the project that took him to the top of the television world was the series "Nip/Tuck" (2003-2010), created by Ryan Murphy and telling about the dark side of the world of plastic surgery. This series, in which she played the character of Julia McNamara, who lives in a troubled marriage, was a great success for six seasons and earned Richardson two Golden Globe nominations.
