Meral Okay is a screenwriter, actress and songwriter who was born on September 20, 1959 in Ankara and died on April 9, 2012 in Istanbul due to lung cancer. He was born as the second child of his mother Tรผrkan and father Ata Katฤฑ. After graduating from Anฤฑttepe High School, he worked as a civil servant for five years; During this period, he took part in the World Bank projects of the Turkish Grain Board and in a commission established by the Turkish Grand National Assembly within the framework of Atatรผrk's 100th birthday celebrations.
During the September 12 period, he was a member of the Turkish Workers' Party and a workplace representative.
Meral, who married cinema and theater actor Yaman Okay in 1984, remained married until her husband died of cancer in 1993 at the age of 42. He settled in Istanbul and started working at the newspaper Gรผnaydฤฑn, was active in the fields of magazine publishing, publishing and production, did stage work with Sezen Aksu and wrote song lyrics.
Okay, who became known to large audiences with the TV series "Second Spring", took the stage at the 40th anniversary celebrations of DฤฐSK and became a member of the Policy Development Board of the 10 December Movement led by DฤฐSK; He also took part in Petrol-ฤฐล Union's "Be a Union Member" campaign film and tried his hand at producing a film.
For a short time, he talked to Beyazฤฑt รztรผrk, "How So?" He presented the program and recently worked as the screenwriter of the TV series "Magnificent Century".
He also received various awards throughout his life; In 2002, she won the Best Supporting Actress award for her role in the movie "Hiรงbiryerde" at the 35th Cinema Writers Association Awards, and in 2007, she won an award in the same category for her performance in the movie "International" at the 14th Golden Boll Film Festival. Meral Okay, who died in her home in Baltalimanฤฑ on the morning of April 9, 2012, was buried next to her husband Yaman Okay in Zincirlikuyu Cemetery.
Meral Okay planned to donate all her property to Nesin Mathematics Village, but her heirs claimed that this donation was not based on a legal basis and distributed her property to them. Her friends fulfilled her verbal will and established a charity organization called "Meral Okay is Born in Mathematics Village" and provided financial support to the village.
