How do you get an e-Devlet password?

e-Devlet (turkiye.gov.tr) lets you handle hundreds of official procedures online without standing in line: getting documents, making inquiries, submitting applications, filing reports... All you need is an e-Devlet password — and this password is issued only to you, through an identity-verified process.

To get it the first time, you need to go to a PTT branch once; after that, everything runs online. Even if you forget your password, in most cases you can recover it without going back to PTT. You'll find the step-by-step path below. One warning up front: never share your e-Devlet password with anyone — anyone who calls and asks for your password is a scammer, without exception; official institutions don't ask for passwords over the phone.

1. Go to PTT with your ID Apply at any PTT branch with your ID card and say you want an e-Devlet password. For a small fee, they give you your password on the spot in a sealed envelope; no appointment is needed.
2. Log in for the first time with the password in the envelope Go to turkiye.gov.tr and sign in with your Turkish ID number and the temporary password from the envelope. Always type the address yourself; watch out for copycat sites in search results.
3. Change your password at first login At your first login, the system asks you to set a new password. Don't choose something guessable like your date of birth; create a strong password you don't use anywhere else.
4. If you forget it, recover it through your bank If you forget your password, try the 'Forgot My Password' option on the login screen: people with internet or mobile banking can create a new password without going to PTT. If that doesn't work, PTT is once again the answer.
5. Protect your login with one more layer In your e-Devlet settings, you can verify your phone number and turn on two-step login; that way, along with your password, you're also asked for a code sent to your phone. For an account holding this much personal data, it's worth it.
6. Get your business done, and log out when you leave On a shared computer or one that belongs to someone else, don't forget to click 'Secure Logout' at the top right when you're done. On your own phone, the most practical option is to use the official e-Devlet app.
