How to set up your own chat room
Opening a room is free and instant. The real question is whether the room stays standing after you leave.
Technically, opening a chat room is the work of a second: you walk into a room that doesn't exist, the room is created and you become its founder. But that room disappears the moment you leave; its settings, its privileges and its name are not kept anywhere.
What makes a room permanent is registration. In a registered room you are the founder, you hand out the privileges, and the room stays standing while you are offline as well.
Think before you open a room
What rooms that go well have in common is a narrow topic and a name people recognize. A room called "Chat" tells nobody anything; "Books" or "Ankara" does. After you open your room you need to be there in the first few days โ an empty room holds nobody.
Handing out privileges
You can't keep a room standing on your own. Giving privileges to a few people who come in at different hours keeps the room alive at night too. Don't give privileges to someone you don't know; taking them back is always possible, but you can't take back what happened in the meantime.

Steps
- Register your nickname firstA room cannot be registered with an unregistered name. If your name isn't registered, you need to take care of that first.๐ก Registering a nick is a two-minute job; you can have a look at the "How to register your nickname" guide.
- Choose the room's nameIt starts with # and contains no spaces. Choose a short, memorable name that says what the topic is: #books, #ankara, #night. Not using Turkish characters is safer for people connecting from different programs.
- Enter the roomType /join #roomname on the chat line. If the room doesn't exist it is created, and you are inside it with founder privileges.
- Register the roomType this command: /cs REGISTER #roomname password description โ for example: /cs REGISTER #books Kt4*mor Book chats. The description appears in the room list, so write it with care.๐ก Save the password somewhere; you will need it for managing the room.
- Set the topicSet the room's topic like this: /topic #roomname What are you reading today? It is the first thing a newcomer sees; the one line that says what the room is.
- Give someone privileges to help youGive operator privileges to people you trust: /cs op #roomname nick. For voice (speaking) privileges: /cs voice #roomname nick. To take them back, deop and devoice are used.๐ก Choose people who come in at different hours โ if they are all online at the same time, the rest of the room is left without anyone in charge.
- Be there in the first few daysA new room doesn't fill up by itself. Be inside regularly during the first week and greet the people who come in. Most rooms die not because of their content but because nobody is there.
