How to start a group on the site

Open your own corner for a shared interest: starting a group takes two minutes, and its channel and announcement system come ready made. A step-by-step guide to starting a group.

How to start a group on the site

On Yudum.NET, groups are the corners where people keen on the same subject gather: a film group, archaeology enthusiasts, the supporters of a team... When you start a group you get not only a page but also a chat channel tied to the group (#grup-name) and the possibility of sending announcements to its members.

Starting a group is open to members and takes two minutes. In the group you founded you approve the applications, write the announcements and, if you want, appoint administrators.

Steps

  1. Go to the Groups page Open the Groups section from the top menu or from the feed: yudum.net/gruplar. You can browse the existing groups here — the one you are looking for may already be there.
  2. Press the 'Create a group' button Open the group creation form on the page. You will see name, description and privacy options.
  3. Take care with the name and the description Keep the name short and clear ('Film Group'); let the description say what is talked about. A good description attracts the right members.
  4. Choose the privacy setting A group that is open to everyone takes members straight away; in an approval-based group you approve the applications yourself. If you can't decide, start open and tighten it later if you need to.
  5. Create it and go into its channel Once the group is created, your #grup-name chat channel is ready as well. Go into the webchat and visit your channel — write the first message yourself.
  6. Invite your first members Send the invitation link on the group page to your friends or share it in the feed. The first ten members are the hardest; the rest come by themselves.
  7. Use the announcement system As the founder you can publish announcements and events from the group page; the announcements land both on the group page and in the channel.
