What to do if you forget your password

Forgetting a password is a common thing and the solution is usually simple. On Yudum.NET account recovery runs through e-mail: a link is sent to your registered address, and you set your new password from that link.

The trouble starts if you didn't give an e-mail address when you registered. In that case there is no way left to verify the account. This isn't strictness but a security requirement: handing an account with no e-mail address to whoever says "it's mine" would mean handing it to anyone who asks for it.

If someone is using your name

If you remember your password but your name is being used by somebody else, that is a separate situation and an easy one to solve — it is covered in the steps below.

1. Open the Forgot my password page Go to /sifremi-unuttum on the site. The link on the login screen brings you here too.
2. Type your nickname or your e-mail address A reset link is sent to your registered address. For security reasons the same message appears on the screen even if the address is not registered — that is normal.
3. Check your inbox The link arrives within a few minutes. If you don't see it, look in your spam and promotions folders. 💡 The link is valid for a limited time. If it has expired, send the request again.
4. Set your new password Click the link and type your new password. Don't make it the same as the old one; choosing something similar to the password you forgot leads to the same place.
5. If you didn't give an e-mail address If you didn't give an e-mail address when you registered, there is no way to recover the account. You need to register a new nickname and add an e-mail address this time. Since your old name is left unused, it expires by itself after a while. 💡 In the new registration be sure to give your e-mail address and click the verification link.
6. If somebody else is using your name If you know your password you can take the name back: the /ns GHOST yournick yourpassword command drops that connection, and then you take your name with /nick yournick. The RECOVER and RELEASE commands do the same job for different situations.
7. From now on Keep your password in a password manager. A password you try to hold in your head is a password that will be forgotten sooner or later.
