โœจ Added

  • Sign in with Google. You can now sign in with your Google account without dealing with passwords. It's available in four places: the login page, the sign-up page, the login box on the home page and the chat screen. Sign-in opens in a small window that closes when you're done, and you pick up right where you left off; if you're in the chat, you won't be disconnected. If you already have an account with the same email, no new account is created โ€” it's linked to your existing one.
  • New section: Quizzes. The Quizzes page has ten quizzes: which zodiac sign are you like, what should you cook tonight, which team should you have supported, which game should you play, what would your name be if you'd picked it yourself, a 90s Turkey quiz and more. Your answers aren't sent anywhere โ€” the scoring is done in your browser. Your result has its own address, so you can share it if you like.
  • Results link to live content. When a quiz ends, you don't get a dead card: if you get a zodiac sign, you see that day's horoscope; a team, the current standings; a recipe, the recipe itself. Every result also comes with "you might like these too" suggestions that change every day โ€” even if you get the same result twice, the page won't be the same.
  • New section: How-To. Eleven guides are live in the How-To section. Some are about the site (how to register your nickname, how to set up your own chat room, what to do if you forgot your password, requesting songs on the radio, profile and avatar), and some are general (strong passwords, how to spot fake news, screenshots, slow Wi-Fi, Turkish coffee). Each guide lists what you need, how long it takes, the difficulty and numbered steps.
  • Category strips. Quizzes and guides are now sorted into categories. Press "All Categories" in the menu at the top to see them all, with the three biggest categories right next to it.
  • Search in football. You can search by team, league or match name; result addresses are now clean and shareable. The league strip is shorter too: Sรผper Lig, Champions League and Europa League are shown directly, the rest open with "All".
  • Cookie notice and browser notifications. The site now asks for your cookie preference. If you like, you can also allow browser notifications โ€” we send at most a few a day: headline news and important matches (Sรผper Lig, Champions League, Europa League; especially Turkish teams' matches and key games like finals). We don't mean to overwhelm you, so we've kept the limit low ourselves.
  • Alternatives for taken nicknames. If the name you picked belongs to someone else, we no longer just say "taken" โ€” we show similar names that are free, and clicking one fills it in. Shared names are common; nobody should be left at the door.

๐Ÿ”ง Fixed

  • The "Similar Content" box was empty. The box next to recipe, biography, dream, name and news pages showed a title but nothing inside. It now fills up and shows genuinely related content โ€” items from the same category come first.
  • Recipe pages without images. A recipe that had an image in the category list looked bare on its own page. Recipes without an image now get a generated cover, and recipes in search results now have images too.
  • Images on our own server. About four thousand seven hundred images have been moved from outside sources to our site and resized. Pages open faster, and there's no longer a risk of images disappearing one day.
  • Getting back to fixtures from the standings. It had become hard to get back to the league fixtures from the standings page, and some team names in the table weren't clickable. Both are fixed, and missing team profiles have been filled in.
  • Mismatched profiles. Some team pages described a city or person with the same name instead of the club (like ร‡orum, Gaziantep, Nice, Roma). The matching rules have been tightened.
  • You don't have to join the chat to contact us. Everywhere we say "let us know", there's now a link to the contact page. Chat might not suit everyone.

๐Ÿ”ฉ Behind the scenes

  • Our webchat doesn't take the usual route. Almost all clients that connect to IRC from a browser use WebSocket. We tried a different approach: the chat connection is set up over a WebRTC data channel and from there connects, encrypted, to a real IRC connection. No ready-made library, no middleman server software. As far as we know, there's no other example of this either โ€” it hadn't been tried, we tried it, and it worked.
  • One account, one identity. Users who sign in with Google can join the chat too without ever creating a password. Web, chat and profile are the same account; there are no separate memberships. Your Google account isn't given to us as a password in the process, and it isn't passed on to the IRC side either โ€” a short-lived login key is used in between.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Note

Next big job: completely refreshing the site's look. We're working on it. In the meantime, if you see anything missing or broken, write to us โ€” fixing it is our job.
