โจ Added
- Profile info is now managed in one place. Age, location, team, social accounts and similar details now look the same on the profile card, in
/whoisoutput, on the NickServ info screen and on the web profile page. Before, each screen had its own list, so some details showed up in one place but not another โ for example, age never appeared on the profile page. - New field: Languages spoken. You can list the languages you speak (e.g. Turkish, English, German). This is separate from the language of service messages; to avoid confusion, the service language can now only be changed in your account settings.
- Profile editing is now split into two sections. My Profile holds the info everyone can see, and Account & Privacy holds your password, email and what's visible. Before, everything was in one long form and you had to hunt for the privacy setting below your bio.
- Chat settings are now saved to your account. Preferences like notifications, showing avatars and join/leave messages are the same on your phone and your computer. You can also manage these settings on the website under Settings โ Chat Settings. (For guest logins, preferences are temporary and reset when you leave.)
- A "My Posts" tab in the feed. Just your own posts. The Friends and Following feeds now only show their posts.
- A "Go back" bar. When you click a link inside a post and go to another page, a small bar appears at the bottom that takes you back to the post you were reading. It only shows up in that case and disappears on its own after a short while.
- Censoring option for the word filter. Instead of blocking the whole message, a banned word can now be replaced with asterisks, and the rest of the sentence still reaches the channel. The option is changed from the admin panel.
- Gradual penalties. Instead of an immediate permanent ban for a rule violation, it now goes step by step: warning โ short ban โ long ban โ permanent ban. The durations can be adjusted from the panel.
- A list of fields you can fill in. Type
/ns PROP LISTto see which profile fields you can fill in, what they mean and where they'll be shown.
๐ง Fixed
- The friends list fills in without a refresh. After reconnecting following a server update, the friends list got stuck on "Loadingโฆ" and you had to refresh the page manually.
- Users who left no longer stay in the list. People who had left the chat could keep showing up in the user list.
- Scrolling in long windows. When content got long in profile and info windows, the "Close" button at the bottom became invisible. Now the title and buttons stay fixed and only the content scrolls.
- Tooltips are no longer cut off. In scrolling areas like the user list and at the edge of the screen, tooltips were only half visible.
- Logging in with a banned nick. Someone whose nick has been banned from use is now switched to a guest nick instead of being kicked off the network; their chat isn't interrupted, they're told the reason and shown how to get in touch to appeal.
- Fixed the connection dropping when trying an unavailable nick in the chat.
๐ Privacy and Security
- Invisibility and address hiding are now mandatory. No matter how you connect to the network, everyone is in invisible mode with a hidden address; users can't turn this protection off. Previously, it was possible to turn address hiding off.
- Email addresses are hidden by default. They're only visible if the owner explicitly allows it. Before, the email of users who had never touched this setting was visible to everyone.
- Connection verification has been strengthened. You can only connect to the chat through our own chat page or through routes approved by the admins.
๐ Chat connection renewed
- The chat now connects directly to the chat server. Previously the connection went through the web server; now there's nothing in between. The web server doesn't need to be up for the chat to work.
- The connection is end-to-end encrypted. Your session with the chat server is now a truly secure connection; the "is using a secure connection" line in
/whoisoutput reflects this. - Your address shows correctly. On some connections, a user's address could appear different from what it should be; the real address is now carried through. This also matters so that bans don't hit the wrong person.
- Disconnects during updates are almost invisible. During a rollout, the chat comes back on its own within a few seconds; most of the time you won't notice anything. Since connections are now closed properly when the server shuts down, the wait is shorter too.
- Visitors from our sister site are welcomed correctly. People joining the chat via Zeytin.NET now come in with that site's identity (guest name, rooms, site label). Previously, in some cases they came in with the Yudum identity.
- Guest names carrying their own site's name were being blocked by mistake; fixed. Ordinary words like zeytin can now be taken as nicks too โ the protection against impersonating staff is still in place.
๐ Who can connect
- Our chat page (yudum.net and zeytin.net) โ open to everyone, you don't need to do anything.
- Programs like mIRC and HexChat โ via the secure connection port, as before.
- People running their own chat interface (KiwiIRC, The Lounge, etc.) โ possible for addresses and domains approved by the admins. Connections from places not on the allow list aren't accepted.
- If you want to request access, just write to us from the contact page; you'll need to tell us which domain and which address you'll connect from.
Most of this update was rolled out while the chat was open, without anyone getting disconnected.
