Stay Online

What does it do?

With Stay online turned on, your nick stays in your channels even after you leave the chat or close the tab or your phone. You show as 💤 Away in the user list, and everything you missed is waiting when you come back. On classic IRC you would need to rent a separate server (a bouncer) for this — on Yudum it is one click and free.

How do I turn it on?

1. Join the webchat with your registered nick.
2. Press Turn on on the 🔌 Stay online strip at the bottom left.
3. The same switch is in the webchat under Settings › Account, and on the site's Settings page.

To turn it off, press Turn off in the same place; you will then leave your channels when you go (as before).

What happens while you are away?

• 💤 Your nick stays in your channels with Away next to it. Messages addressed to you still reach you.
• 📜 When you come back you see the channel messages you missed below a “you left off here” line.
• ✉️ Friends and registered users can leave you private messages; they wait for you unread and open in their own windows when you connect. Guests can't leave messages.
• 📱 You can use your phone and computer at the same time; they share one session, and what you read on one is marked read on the other.

Who can use it?

• Members with a registered nick whose account is at least a few days old.
• It works only in the Yudum webchat. You can't attach to this session with programs like mIRC; people who use an IRC program connect as usual.

When does it turn off by itself?

• If you don't open the webchat for more than a week; your nick doesn't wait in the channels forever.
• If the account is suspended or banned from the network.
• When it turns off, the reason is shown the next time you sign in and on the Settings page; you can turn it back on right away.

Common questions

Do I look “online” while it is on?
No. While you are not at the screen everyone sees you as 💤 Away, so nobody expects an instant reply.

How long are missed messages kept?
One week. Older ones are deleted automatically.

I don't see the strip.
