Private Messages

Topics

This English text is provided for information only; the binding version is the Turkish one: Turkish original

On Yudum private messages land in the same inbox in chat and on the site. A message you write in chat also appears on the site's Messages page.

Messaging in chat

  1. Right-click the person's name (long-press on a phone).
  2. Press ๐Ÿ’ฌ Private message. A tab opens for that person.
  3. Every line you write goes only to them.

With a command: /msg nick your message

Messaging on the site

The Messages page lists all your conversations. Opening one marks incoming messages as read. You get a notification for new messages; the notification shows who wrote, not the text.

Offline messages

If the person is not connected, your message is kept and they see it when they come back โ€” only if you are friends. A message to a non-friend who is offline is not kept.

When you write to someone who is not your friend, a friend request goes with the message.

For classic offline notes you can also use MemoServ: /ms SEND nick your note ยท read with /ms LIST and /ms READ 1

Photos, videos and voice messages

The + button in the message box sends documents, photos, videos, GIFs, stickers, polls and voice messages. In a person's tab, files go only to that person.

Uploaded files are kept for 30 days.

Read receipts and deleting

Your message is marked read when the other person opens the conversation.

Delete for me removes a message only on your side; the other person still sees it. Delete for everyone removes it on both sides; it only works on your own messages and leaves a "This message was deleted" line.

Stopping unwanted messages

Blocking: right-click the name and choose ๐Ÿšซ Block. A blocked person can neither message nor call you. Command: /msg NickServ BLOCK ADD nick

Friends only: to let only friends write to you, turn it on under Settings โ€บ Privacy, or type /msg NickServ SET dmpolicy friends (dmpolicy all opens it again).

Advertising and spam are watched separately: accounts that send the same message to many people in a short time are stopped.

Common questions

Who can read my messages? Private messages are between you and the person you write to. Staff may review them if there is a complaint.

Can I message as a guest? You can write to registered users, but your messages are not stored and your nick must be registered for replies to reach you.

Is there a length limit? A single message is limited to 2000 characters.

What if I change my nick? Messages belong to your account; your conversations stay even if your displayed nick changes.
